Always Tired? Here Are 4 Reasons Your Body Might Be Asking for Help

16 July 2026

Have you ever woken up feeling like you could happily crawl straight back into bed?

You make it through the day fuelled by coffee, push through the afternoon slump, and collapse onto the couch at night wondering why you have nothing left to give.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.

So many women tell me they feel exhausted all the time. Not just "I've had a busy week" tired, but the kind of fatigue that makes everyday life feel heavier than it should. The kind where your motivation disappears, your brain feels foggy, and even the smallest tasks seem overwhelming.

The truth is, constant fatigue isn't something you simply have to accept. It's often your body's way of asking for help. Rather than being a problem on its own, fatigue is usually a symptom of something deeper—and often, it's a combination of factors quietly building over time.

1. Nutrient Deficiencies

Iron and vitamin B12 are essential nutrients that help your body transport oxygen and produce energy. When levels are low, it's common to experience persistent tiredness and difficulty functioning day to day.

Women are particularly at risk of iron deficiency if they:

  • Experience heavy menstrual periods

  • Follow a vegetarian or vegan diet

  • Have digestive conditions such as coeliac disease

  • Have difficulty absorbing nutrients

A simple blood test can help identify whether low iron or vitamin B12 may be contributing to your fatigue.

Signs of low iron or B12 may include:

  • Persistent fatigue

  • Shortness of breath

  • Brain fog

  • Dizziness

  • Poor concentration

2. Sleep Quality Matters More Than You Think

Getting enough sleep is important—but so is getting good-quality sleep.

Even if you're spending eight hours in bed, your body may not be getting the deep, restorative sleep it needs to repair, regulate hormones, and restore energy.

Poor sleep over time can contribute to:

  • Ongoing fatigue

  • Daytime sleepiness

  • Poor concentration

  • Memory lapses

  • Irritability

Several factors can interfere with quality sleep, including:

  • Sleep apnoea

  • Chronic stress or anxiety

  • Caffeine or alcohol intake

  • Excessive screen time before bed

If you regularly wake feeling unrefreshed, it's worth exploring what's affecting your sleep—not just how many hours you're getting.

3. The Invisible Weight of the Mental Load

Many women spend their days juggling multiple roles—work, family, household responsibilities, caring for others, and trying to keep everything running smoothly.

When stress becomes constant, your body produces higher levels of cortisol, the hormone designed to help you cope with challenges. While cortisol is essential, living in a prolonged state of stress can leave you feeling wired but exhausted.

Over time, your nervous system can become depleted, making it increasingly difficult to feel rested or energised.

You might notice:

  • Afternoon energy crashes

  • Difficulty switching off at night

  • Feeling anxious or overwhelmed

  • Increased sugar cravings

  • Brain fog and poor concentration

4. Are You Eating Enough to Fuel Your Body?

One of the most common patterns I see is women unintentionally under-fuelling themselves.

Perhaps it's a piece of toast for breakfast, a light salad with very little protein for lunch, then reaching for chocolate, biscuits, or another coffee by mid-afternoon because your energy has completely disappeared.

Protein plays a vital role in:

  • Stabilising blood sugar

  • Supporting hormone production

  • Building and repairing tissues

  • Providing steady, sustained energy throughout the day

Without enough protein, blood sugar rises quickly and then crashes—leaving you feeling tired, hungry, irritable, and craving more sugar. It's a cycle many women find themselves stuck in without even realising it.

Looking Beyond the Symptoms

As naturopaths, we don't just ask what your symptoms are—we explore why they're happening.

That may include:

  • Reviewing your health history and current symptoms

  • Interpreting pathology results, including iron and vitamin B12 levels

  • Assessing your sleep habits

  • Understanding how stress is affecting your nervous system

  • Evaluating whether you're getting the nutrition your body truly needs

From there, we create a personalised treatment plan that supports your body gently and sustainably.

Because true energy doesn't come from another coffee.

It comes from giving your body the nutrients, rest, and support it has been asking for all along.

You Deserve to Feel Like Yourself Again

If you've been told your blood tests are "normal," or you've convinced yourself that feeling exhausted is simply part of being a busy woman, I want you to know there may be more to the story.

Your symptoms deserve to be explored—not dismissed.

You deserve to wake up feeling refreshed, energised, and able to enjoy your life rather than simply getting through it.

If you're ready to understand what's really behind your fatigue, we'd love to support you. Together, we can uncover the root causes and create a personalised plan to help you feel energised, nourished, and like yourself again.
